Culture Days - Classical Guitar: A History of Diversity in Music

Culture Days - Classical Guitar: A History of Diversity in Music In-Person

Intended for teens and adults.

We call it the “Spanish Guitar” but few know that the guitar’s origin, development and popularity are owed to BIPOC individuals and populations. The interactive lecture-recital with Jelica Mijanovic follows the guitar’s evolution from Islamic Caliphate of Cordoba, Jewish migration from Andalusia to the Balkans, and Roma’s settlement in Spain, to the role of the Americas’ native and enslaved peoples in guitar music.

This program is drop-in, registering below enables you to receive an email reminder closer to the event date.
