Soil Making Workshop

Soil Making Workshop In-Person

Join Karen Houle for an all-ages workshop exploring the art of making soil and composting. Participants are welcome to bring along items for composting in this hands-on workshop.

Karen (Kéké) Houle is the founder of The Compost Queens of the Royal City. Her #1 obsession-passion is to support people of all ages, all walks of life, all incomes, all abilities, to learn how to efficiently and effectively convert their organic wastes into fabulous soil. That could be as small & simple as making worm castings out of all your apple cores, and fertilizing your houseplants with it. It could be building a massive "Community Compost System" on a school ground or on the property of a small business that generates organic waste (like a local coffee shop). Or at a community garden, supporting successful urban agriculture through soil amendment!  Composting can even mitigate climate change through diverting paper, food scraps, sawdust, hamster and rabbit cage "contents," yard waste, dead houseplants, etc. etc. etc. into soil-making vs. greenhouse-gas making!

Children must be accompanied by an adult caregiver at all times.
