Accidental Success: The Welland Canal in 1830 In-Person
The canal project had many detractors and was doomed to fail at every turn, so how did it succeed (even if behind schedule and over budget)? Adrian Petry, public historian and Visitor Services Coordinator at the St. Catharines Museum, explores the many difficulties experienced in building the First Welland Canal and its first full season of operation in 1830.
